Taking your baby in for their 12 month checkup will include some of the usual things that happen during checkups, but it will also include some new things as well. Everything that happens at your child's one year checkup is for the well-being of your child, and is done to make sure that they are growing and developing as they should be. This article will discuss 3 things to expect at your baby's one year checkup.

Measurements and Examination

As part of the routine checkup, your baby will first have their measurements taken. They will be weighed, their height will be measured, and their head circumference will also be measured. The doctor will discuss these measurements with you and tell you what percentile they are in, and if they are growing as they should. If something is measuring small, they may have some recommendations for you.

Your child will also have a full physical examination during their checkup. The pediatrician will look in their eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and genital area just as in other visits. They will ask you about teething, and will discuss what foods your child can eat. They will talk with you about your child's mobility, and explain to you what most children at that age are doing. Lastly, they will talk with you about your child's verbal abilities, and may have you help your child demonstrate some of the words that they can say.

Fill Out Development Survey

During this appointment you will also be asked to fill out a development survey for your child. The survey will ask questions about your child's fine tune motor movements, overall mobility, verbal communication skills, eating habits, and more. The survey will explain that you should try to have your child perform these acts right in the doctor's office, so it may take some time to complete the entire survey. This survey will not only help your pediatrician to see how your child is doing overall, but it will also allow them to gather information for statistical reasons.

Receive Shots

Finally, at the end of your appointment, your child will receive their one year shots. This will include vaccines for Hepatitis A (Hip), Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella or chickenpox (PCV). These are all given to your child in a total of 3 shots. Also, if your child has not yet received their flu shot for the year, they will be recommended to get this shot at this visit as well.

Make sure you go to a trusted clinic, such as Kitsap Children's Clinic LLP, for the best care.

About Me
Back Pain: Easing the Symptoms

Only people who live with constant back pain will understand how my days tend to go. On days when the pain is slight, I can manage pretty well. When it flares up, there is no such thing as a comfortable position. Fortunately, I have found ways to help ease the pain and keep going. A friend recommended that I see a chiropractor. While skeptical, I did find that having an adjustment twice a week does help. I tend to rely less on pain medication than I did before, and there are days when I feel almost normal. If you have not considered a visit to a chiropractor, I suggest that you make an appointment. Let me tell you a little about how to prepare for the visit, and what to expect. You may find that those visits end up making your days much more pleasant.
