Inflammation is your body's way of protecting itself. White blood cells are released to the affected area in order to help fight off any foreign objects in the body. In return, the area may become red and swollen. This is often very painful and can limit your ability to do many of the normal daily activities you did in the past. It is important to be very careful about what foods you consume as some foods can actually increase inflammation. Sugar, refined carbohydrates, and MSG are just a few of the ingredients you want to steer clear of to avoid inflammation. On the other hand, there are some foods that can actually help treat inflammation. Here are some of the foods you should consume more of if you have an area that is inflamed.

Fruits

Two cups of fruit should be consumed on a daily basis, according to the departments of Agriculture and Health and Human services. The antioxidants in fruit help fight off free radicals that can cause the inflammation. To help get more fruits in your diet, you should swap out the processed snack with a serving of fruit in between meals. Getting nine servings can be difficult on a daily basis if you are not used to eating so many fruits. To help make it easier, be sure to keep plenty of fruits handy at home and at work so you can grab some when you get hungry.

Garlic

Garlic is not just for repelling vampires, but it can also help treat inflammation. Sure, you have to deal with the bad breath that tends to form after consuming it, but it can be well worth it when you start to see some of the inflammation going down. Garlic can be mixed into a variety of recipes. If the bad breath puts you off, you can add some other herbs like mint to help make up for it. Mint is also a great ingredient that helps reduce inflammation.

Tea

There are many benefits to consuming tea on a daily basis including reducing inflammation. Green tea specifically is filled with many antioxidants that can help fight off inflammation. Be sure to steer towards the higher quality green tea as these often have lower levels of fluoride. Green tea is also known to help lower some forms of cancer. Experts suggest it can lower the risk of prostate cancer by 48% and breast cancer by 22%.

About Me
Back Pain: Easing the Symptoms

Only people who live with constant back pain will understand how my days tend to go. On days when the pain is slight, I can manage pretty well. When it flares up, there is no such thing as a comfortable position. Fortunately, I have found ways to help ease the pain and keep going. A friend recommended that I see a chiropractor. While skeptical, I did find that having an adjustment twice a week does help. I tend to rely less on pain medication than I did before, and there are days when I feel almost normal. If you have not considered a visit to a chiropractor, I suggest that you make an appointment. Let me tell you a little about how to prepare for the visit, and what to expect. You may find that those visits end up making your days much more pleasant.
