For men that have decided that they do not want to have any more children, it may be a prudent move to receive a vasectomy. Unfortunately, some men may be embarrassed when it comes to this surgery, which may cause them to experience difficulty deciding whether it is the right family planning move for their family because they may not have the information that they need.

What Is Done When You Receive A Vasectomy?

A vasectomy can be an intimidating procedure if you are unsure of what is done during these surgeries. Essentially, a vasectomy will involve cutting or clamping the tubes that transport sperm from the testicles. This is done by making a small incision along the scrotum. Due to the sensitivity of this area, a powerful anesthetic will be used to reduce any pain or discomfort that the patient may experience.

How Long Will Recovering From Vasectomy Surgery Take?

Another worry that patients may have about going through this surgery is needing to miss a substantial amount of work or to otherwise have daily life disrupted. While it is true that you will need some time to heal from this procedure, it will be minimal. Most patients will find that they only need a couple of days before they are able to return to their normal daily routine.

During the first day or two, you will likely experience some tenderness and swelling of the genital area, but ice packets and over the counter pain medication should allow you to manage these symptoms. However, you will still be required to make follow-up visits so that the surgery site's healing progress can be monitored. Failing to attend these visits can cause you to be at a higher risk of developing a complication, such as infection.

Is A Vasectomy Completely Effective?

There is a common misconception that a vasectomy can be an extremely unreliable procedure to have done. While it is theoretically possible for this procedure to fail, it is extremely rare. Typically, clamping the sperm tubes does have a risk of failure because some sperm may be able to make it through the clamped tube, but this is still a highly effective solution for most people.

For patients that are extremely worried about the vasectomy failing, cutting the tubes may be a better solution as it will completely block sperm from leaving the testicles, but it may not be reversible in the future. Therefore, you should consult with your doctor so that you better understand the benefits and disadvantages of these options as they relate to your particular situation.

About Me
Back Pain: Easing the Symptoms

Only people who live with constant back pain will understand how my days tend to go. On days when the pain is slight, I can manage pretty well. When it flares up, there is no such thing as a comfortable position. Fortunately, I have found ways to help ease the pain and keep going. A friend recommended that I see a chiropractor. While skeptical, I did find that having an adjustment twice a week does help. I tend to rely less on pain medication than I did before, and there are days when I feel almost normal. If you have not considered a visit to a chiropractor, I suggest that you make an appointment. Let me tell you a little about how to prepare for the visit, and what to expect. You may find that those visits end up making your days much more pleasant.
